C1: Why do you hate white people? You bitch about the most trivial things even at Stuff White People Do, and the author, Macon D, is an antiracist. It’s because he’s white, isn’t he?
C2: No. I don’t hate white people. I point out things that seem wrong to me, simply because they are wrong (to me).
C1: But why do you have to be such a bitch about it? Macon D isn’t the enemy. He’s not part of the KKK and he’s not a Neo-Nazi. He’s on your side, but you still want to create racial divisions. Don’t you have a life?
C2: Pointing out racism or possible racism is not “creating” racial divisions.
C1: It seems like you get off on playing the race card. Even when the man is an antiracist and paints white people in a negative light, you’re still not satisfied. Don’t you have anything better to do than look for racism in everything? Your whole purpose in life is to make white people look like racists.
C2: No. I don’t have to go “look” for racism to find it. What is “subtle racism” for most white people is often blatant racism for me. Macon D’s posts have a mix of things that I agree with strongly, and then there are some posts or sentences that are from a white POV. I zero in on the things that seem “wrong” to me, because there is little value in spending time replying to posts I like with “I agree.”
C1: What you’re doing is not helpful. You need to learn to pick your battles. Macon D is by no means the white person or white people you should be worried about. If you want to fight racism, fight against the KKK, fight against the conservatives, but don’t alienate the white people who are sympathetic to your cause. This just shows that you are not interested in ending racism, but you are only interested in proving that all white people are bad.
C2: No. I point out even “trivial” instances of racism or white bias because it’s there, not because I have some kind of agenda against white people. You’re just making up some kind of rationale for my behaviour, because you don’t want to deal with the points I brought up on an individual basis. Even if I had some kind of “agenda” against white people, which I don’t, it’s irrelevant to determining the truth or falsity of those individual points. You’re changing the subject and bringing up some irrelevant ad hominem shit about my personality instead of focussing on the subject at hand, the subject being whiteness and racism.
C1: Yeah, whatever. I don’t really care.
C2: Then why did you bring it up?

I don’t know which “C” I should address here, so I’ll just say that I very much appreciate Restructure’s comments at my blog. They’re always smart and very specific. Including the negative ones–they help me grow. I know that there are still features of my white POV that need my further examination and understanding if I’m to become a better anti-racist ally. It seems that part of what you’re doing in this blog is further analyzing your own racialized POV? If so, what a great way to do it. I look forward to more debates here.

Now that I think about it, the Restructure blog is probably not just C2, although it’s more C2 than C1.
I don’t think this blog is really analyzing anything. C1 is how I think, C2 is how I think, and these two views are incompatible. The Restructure blog is more of an analysis, while this Double Consciousness Debates blog is the mental chatter in my head that I want to shut up.
Restructure, I would say I find it amazing that GTP and Mix just upped and assumed standard rants about Blacks were fitting here. Out of complete ignorance, of course.
I will say that I agree with Macon… This is an excellent idea for a blog. THUMBS UP!!
RE: The KKK references by C1… Name the American ‘founding fathers’ who were part of the KKK. Name the KKK figure who started the slave codes. Name the KKK figure who started the Black Codes. Name the Supreme Court justices that belonged to the KKK.

I dont hate white people i hate any race. I just hate it when people think theyre superior. We ALL have contributed to the making of the world. I just admire all races i have seen ugly and pretty in all races. The reason why i say dont put us all under one category is because i was on the internet and some dude said ALL black people have wide stubby nose. Im black and my nose is narrow and long does that means im not black? Come on like when they say ALL white people have narrower noses. Which is untrue because ive seen white people with little button noses like my cousin whos mixed with white and black have africanized features light skinned with shoulder length brow hair. Does that mean shes not mixed? People just look beyond a persons race skin tone or culture cause in the end we are all part of the HUMAN RACE.
